How to Take Better Care of Your Hair

Whether you’ve got long, luscious locks or a chic short ‘do, taking great care of your hair is essential to having good hair days. From bleaching to heat tools, chances are, your hair has taken a beating. Looking to up your hair game? We’ve got the tips to get your hair looking like #hairgoals.

Don’t overwash your hair

You’re probably sick of hearing about how you shouldn’t be washing your hair everyday, but it’s too important not to mention. Especially if you’re using a harsh shampoo, daily washes can strip your hair of much needed oil, leaving your strands limp, dry, and lifeless. If you aren’t already on the dry shampoo train, get on now! Not only does it allow you to skip a few washes, it shortens your morning routine. Talk about a win-win!

Use high quality products

Cheap drugstore hair products can be tempting, but always remember: you get what you pay for. We’re not suggesting that you need to buy the $80 shampoo that your hair salon pushes, but opting for a higher quality shampoo with less harsh chemicals can make a huge impact on your hair. Look for a shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t contain sulfates (especially if you’re a color-treated gal) and is made with natural ingredients. Lucky for you, Nurture My Body has hair products that fit the bill.

Let your hair down

It can be tempting to throw your hair into a ponytail every day, but pulling your hair back could be harmful for your hair health. Tight ponytails can cause hair loss, breakage, and frizz. Tired of having hair in your face? Try a headband or a loose braid! If you absolutely must keep your hair in a ponytail, look for hair ties that are thick and supportive.

Get regular haircuts

If you’re used to getting a haircut only when your hair is calling out for help, it might be time to start getting regular trims. Getting frequent haircuts keeps your split ends under control and frizziness at bay. Plus, a trim of a quarter of an inch every couple of months isn’t as drastic as three inches twice a year — that means no post-haircut panic!

Limit Your Time in the Sun

You’re used to applying sunscreen for your skin, but think of all the damage the sun’s rays can do to your unprotected hair! Especially for color treated strands, applying some SPF heat protectant in your hair can prevent bleaching and drying out. Protecting against the sun and pool water will keep your hair bouncy and healthy all summer long.

There’s a long list of things you can do to take better care of your hair, and it can be overwhelming to know where to begin. Starting with high quality products with natural ingredients is an easy way to take your hair game to the next level. Not sure what to get? Nurture My Body has options for all hair types, and every product is made with certified organic ingredients!
