Fragrance Free Organic Beauty Products – Confused?

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Thank you so much for visiting! Be sure to visit our Boutique. Hope to see you again soon!

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to why Nurture My Body offers Fragrance Free Organic Beauty Products in addition to products with essential oils. First, you should know that we have never used Synthetic Fragrances in our products, nor will we ever, as they are toxic to the body.

All About Essential Oils – Are They Really Oily?

The only ingredients we use in our products that produce a scent or fragrance are our certified organic and wildcrafted essential oils. And here’s the real important reason why. We use essential oils not just for their smell but for the therapeutic properties they possess.

Distillation Process

Distillation Process

An essential oil is made by taking different parts of plant materials and either processing them by steam distillation, cold process or CO2 process. An example is Lavender. The plant flowers are used to create the essential oil. It takes about 5 pounds of the flowers to produce 1 ounce of essential oil by the steam distillation process. So, you can see how potent it is.

The essential oil is said to be the essence or soul of the plant. It carries the information in it that the plant uses to survive and thrive in Nature. The oils are contained in the cellular structure of the plant in the glands of the leaves, root, bark or blossoms.

A Safe Beginning

A Safe Beginning

Here are some helpful tips for parents who are considering Organic Baby Care Products.

Shopping at a “natural” store does not mean everyting is paraben and phthalate-free for your precious baby. Read labels, know how to interpret the ingredients and don’t let the wool be pulled over your eyes by the word “natural” on the label. If it says -paraben in any shape or form, it contains parabens!

Be suspicious of the term “fragrance”. Synthetic fragrances are a phthalate culprit so if you can, try to use products with organic or natural fragrances – or choose “unscented”. Unscented products can also contain phthalates (yup!)! EWG says,

“Fragrance-free” or “unscented” means a product has no odor, but synthetic ingredients are often added to mask odors. Products without the word “fragrance” on their label should be OK.

Do You Ca-hair About Yours?

Shampoo, conditioner, serum, wax, gel, hair spray, color… the list goes on. Hair, like the skin, is extremely absorbent and all those products can contain harmful chemicals.

Watch out for shampoos and conditioners containing petroleum products and sodium laurel sulphates; hair dyes with carcinogenic coal tar; hairsprays and hair gels containing petroleum derivatives, formaldehyde, phthalates, and synthetic fragrance.

Care for your hair and use only safe organic hair care products including pure organic shampoos and organic conditioners. And take the time to find out exactly what’s in the products you’re about to buy. Your hair, and health will love you for it.
